Aborigines

To begin narration about Kamchatka's aborigines it should be fair to mention first of their ancestry.
It was discovered by archaeologists that ancient people already inhabited Kamchatka Peninsula about 14.000 years ago. They were busy with fishing, hunting and gathering berries and mushrooms. For fishing and hunting they used simplest stony tools (knives, hooks, tips etc.) Their dwellings resembled contemporary wigwams (yarangas) but rather big ones (about 100 sq.meters)divided to several apartments with stony ovens inside.
Contemporary aborigines of Kamchatka should be proud with their ancestry as they could survive in rather severe conditions of the Peninsula.
Nowadays aborigines are represented by several folks(nations).
The Koryaks are the main inhabitants of the North of Kamchatka. They have their own autonomy - the Karyaksky Autonomous Okrug. The population is 5506 people (01.01.02). They are busy mainly with reindeer breeding and rely on the reindeer for its food, clothing (fur is used for making capes, fur caps and fur boots) for building of portable dwellings.
