VOLCANOES

The Kamchatka Peninsula is one of the most active volcanic regions along the Pacific Ring of Fire. There are about 300 volcanoes in Kamchatka and 29 of them are active. Two major volcanic ranges (the Sredynniy and the Eastern) lie in a north, north-eastern line. The older, less active range (the Sredynniy) occupies the central and western half of Kamchatka. The younger, more active belt (the Eastern) begins at the southern-most point of the peninsula and continues upward along the Pacific coastline. This is one of most interesting places in Kamchatka attracting the tourists by the highest peaks, the biggest glaciers and the most active volcanoes. Kluchevskoy (4,850 m), one of the most active and renown volcanoes in the world, dominates Kamchatka's main cluster of volcanoes: the Kluchi Group. Here eruptions occur 2-3 times in a year, anyone can watch them with own eyes. In the zone of slag cones which remind the moon scenery view one can travel comfortably on a car.    The process of orogenesis is going on in sight of inhabitants and guest of Kamchatka. Volcanoes are being born even now.    In 1975-1976 the whole world was watching the performance of the birth of New Tolbachinskiye volcanoes which cones had grown before people's eyes from the clefts crawling off along the valley.
Further to the south, not far from Petropavlovsk-city Avachinsky (2,741 m) and Koriaksky (3,456 m) volcanoes are situated. Both of them are active but Avachinsky erupts more frequently and from time to time citizens may watch its eruption from their windows. More over Avachinsky volcano has dramatic history, you can see in the table below how it has chanched its shape from ancient times to nowadays.

14000 years ago
As volcanologists said Avachinsky volcano was a giant before its explosion about 14000 years ago, as a result of the catastrophe entire landscape around this area was chanched and new cone has been grown on the ruins of the structure

Kamchatka keeps many evidences of catastrophic eruptions and explosions. Most of them took place in ancient times but several explosions were going on in 20 century.
Here is chronicle of most remarkable eruptions in the last century:
>>>>> March of 1907 - volcano Ksudach (160 km south of Petropavlovsk) errupted and covered by slag huge territory around it with depth of the slag up to 3 meters. Owing to uninhabited place nobody watched this eruption and only several years after the case scientists reported about it.
>>>>> 30 March 1956 explosion of Bezimianny volcano as a result its summit remain lower 200 meters.
>>>>> 1975-1976 New Tolbachik eruption - the biggest eruptions of the century, as a result of it four new cones at the flat valley were grown with height up to 300 meters. This eruption was one of few cases which was predicted by scientists.
